FRONT PATIO & BACK WALL El Gato Taqueria
The sidewalk patio and the back wall facing the restrooms were the last two areas of the restaurant needing art. I wanted to be sure to tie everything together visually, borrowing visual elements from the art in the main room. The patio art needed to be bold and attention-grabbing, so I used a variety of metallic paint, permanent holographic sticker paper and urethaned glitter to reflect the headlights from traffic and those parked out front. The art for the back wall was originally going to feature a massive cluster of 3-D prickly pear cactus and a gigantic spaceship, but I decided against that in favor of a more spindly look. I like the idea of a big strong luchador carrying a huge hot pepper, balancing himself, waiting for that cactus to snap at any moment... and he's lost in space.
